Reading the chart
Doses run down the left, bacteriostatic water volumes across the top, and each cell is the units to draw where the two meet. Set the vial size and syringe above the grid before reading it — both change every figure. A dash marks a combination the selected syringe cannot draw, either because the volume overflows the barrel or because it falls under one unit and cannot be measured accurately.
Why a grid beats a single answer
A calculator answers one combination at a time, which is what you want while measuring a dose. It is the wrong shape for the decision you make before that: how to mix the vial in the first place. Seeing a whole row at once makes the trade-off obvious — the same dose might read as 8 units at 0.5 mL and 50 units at 3 mL, and the larger figure is far harder to misread by a unit.
Scanning a column is just as useful in the other direction. If your protocol steps a dose up over time, the column shows every future draw from the same vial, so you can pick a water volume that keeps all of them readable rather than one that suits only your starting dose.

How do you read a peptide reconstitution chart?+
Find your dose down the left column and the amount of bacteriostatic water you added across the top. The cell where they meet is the number of units to draw on an insulin syringe. Set the vial size and syringe type above the chart first, because both change every figure in the grid.
Why does the same dose show different units in each column?+
Because the water volume sets the concentration. The same dose drawn from a more dilute vial occupies more volume, so it reads as more units on the syringe. The amount of peptide is identical in every column — only how far it is spread out changes.
What do the dashes in the chart mean?+
A dash means that combination is outside what the selected syringe can draw — either the volume is larger than the barrel holds, or it is under one unit and too small to measure accurately. Switching to a different syringe size or water volume usually resolves it.
Why are some numbers highlighted?+
Highlighted figures land exactly on a marked gradation of the syringe you selected, so you can draw them without estimating between marks. Barrels are marked differently — 0.3 mL and 0.5 mL usually in single units, 1 mL every two — so the highlighted cells change when you switch syringe. If your 0.3 mL barrel is one of the half-unit versions, switch on “½-unit marks” and the highlighting follows it. Check the barrel in your hand before drawing.
